About Dumb Dan

Daniel “Dumb Dan” Lindeberg is the latest talent to emerge from the prolific Swedish club scene, following in the footsteps of the likes of Axwell, Eric Prydz and John Dahlback, forging his own brand of ass-shaking house music, with a nod in both underground and commercial directions.

Dan grew up on a small Island called Gotland, tucked between Sweden and the then Soviet Union. It all started at the age of ten when he discovered a collection of weird electronic records at his schoolmate’s house. Dan was instantly captivated by them, and spent hours listening to their otherworldly sounds on repeat. They turned out to be his friend’s dad’s collection of Kraftwerk records, and were a huge influence on the young Swede. Soon after, he also discovered the joys of Italo disco – Daniel started collecting 12″ vinyl singles, and performed his first ever teenage DJ stints at local school discos. Dan wanted to try to re-create these new sounds himself – he bought an early Casio synthesizer and started tinkering away into the night, crafting beats, bleeps and basslines.

In the early 90s, Daniel and a friend set up the first and last specialist dance record shop in Visby, the main city on the island of Gotland. (It was a labour of love, but unfortunately only 20000 people live in the city, and nobody cared much for dance music back then, so it wasn’t a huge success!) Undeterred, Daniel moved to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, to pursue his passion, and eventually found his way to London, the hub of the global dance world. It was here in the vibrant heart of Brixton that Daniel fully immersed himself into the energetic local scene, playing breaks and house music at clubs and house parties across the capital. By the time he returned to Sweden in 2001, he was chock full of inspiration, immediately started producing tracks again, and the rest, as they say, is history. In 2005 Daniel set up his own imprint, Dumb Recordings, which quickly became very influential amongst the global house cognoscenti.

Daniel’s production pedigree is without question – he has released records on world-reknowned labels like Armada, Whoop, Stoneyboy, and many others. Recently Daniel’s remix of Moussa Clarke’s “Regret” was a Beatport top seller, and his alias Sick is a firm favourite with Judge Jules, who played his track for four weeks straight on BBC Radio 1 in the UK. An extremely prolific producer, he’s also been behind some very creative re-edits in the last year, including his take on Daft Punk, Justice, New Order and more. He can do it all, from underground wibbley electronic weirdness to main room destroying stormers, funky rump-shakers, to more emotive melodic soundscapes. Dan’s originals, remixes and edits are supported by countless radio and club DJs around the globe, including Stonebridge, Armin Van Buuren, Desyn Masiello, Pete Tong, Gabriel & Dresden and many many more.
